Thinset mortar bonds backerboard sheets to the table and it also bonds tile with backerboard. Place the masonite on the thinset smooth side down and apply a light even pressure over the entire surface. I originally wanted to try to save the wood grain pattern on top but when i saw that tile i knew it d be perfect for this table. Coat front and back of the board to ensure it does not absorb any tile adhesive.

Apply a thin coat of tile adhesive to the back of each tile and place it on the mastic. I cleaned up the table and then sanded here or there where there were bumps or scratches etc for a smooth finish. Apply one coat of polyvinyl glue with a 2 inch paintbrush to the entire surface of the concrete backer board. A rolling pin makes a nice tool for this purpose.

Using the same thinset mortar that you will use for your tile cover the table top. Clean excess thinset from the edges of the table. Prepare grout powder by mixing it with water until it is the consistency of peanut butter. Install the cut tile just as you did the full size tile.

Then i took it outside and gave it one or two quick coats of spray with primer.
